Recently purchased a new DE44BC and have been experimenting with ammo and recently tested a few H110/240 JSP loads. I tested 23gr , 23.5 gr and 24. Interesting data and observations. 23 gr shot good, I had 1 out of 8 FTF. 23.5gr shot perfect. Now here's the weird deal, when I shot the 24gr load every shot forced the action to lock open ? I shot another 8 rounds with my thumb forcing the slide lock down and gun cycled perfect. I'm a little miffed as to why this happened with the 24gr load. I'm also noticing that some of my rounds will not allow the round to fully chamber. When I cycle the action I observe about a 1/8" gap between the barrel and the action, I have to force the action closed that extra distance and then we are locked and ready to fire. Seems as I have a very tight chamber. If I swab clean the chamber the rounds chamber smooth. This was just my imitial testing and I plan on more testing to fine tune what my DE needs to function reliably. I ran the loads through my Alpha Crony and here's where i'm at with velocities :
23gr / H110 / 1.6 OAL Sierra 240 jsp low=1225 / high=1293 / avg=1256
23.5 / H110 / 1.6 OAL Sierra 240 jsp low=1247 / high=1321 / avg=1279
24 / H110 / 1.6 OAL Sierra 240 jsp low=1310 / high=1390 / avg=1358 *slide locked open on every shot ?
Any feedback would be appreciated. One final question, anyone load 300 gr projectiles in the DE44 ? Can the gun handle the heavier bullets ? Thanks !
